Structure

SAIL is structured into 4 Work Packages (WPs) as follows:

WP-A – Impact and Collaboration Enabling (ICE)
It co-ordinates various cross-cutting themes (e.g., management, security, inter-provider and prototyping issues) that affect each of the other WPs and will also ensure that standardisation and migration, socio-economics, business and regulatory aspects, and exploitation and dissemination activities are properly considered.

The task split is the following:

  • T-A.1 – Technical Coordination and Architectural Harmonisation
  • T-A.2 – Migration & Standardisation
  • T-A.3 – Dissemination
  • T-A.4 – Socio-economics

WP-B – Network of Information (NetInf)

It will demonstrate Network of Information reduced overall cost per delivered bit of application payload, for some reasonable and accepted cost metrics, e.g., improvement of goodput (useful traffic delivered per time, not just throughput) for the specific use cases content distribution and machine-to-machine communication, compared to today’s Internet.  Finally, it will characterise the scaling properties of important figures of merit of the proposed system.

The task split is the following:

  • T-B.1 – Evolved Architecture
  • T-B.2 – Content Delivery
  • T-B.3 – Applications
  • T-B.4 – Operations and Management
  • T-B.5 – Prototypes and Evaluation

WP-C – Open Connectivity Service (OConS)

It will develop and implement a proof-of-concept protocol capable of controlling transport data flows from end-to-end and edge-to-edge over IP and MPLS networks and new emerging transport technologies, efficiently utilising diverse routes and transport capabilities.  Accordingly, it will design a comprehensive ecosystem and will provide validation by prototypes in a network-level testbed, for managing data transport flows between edge interfaces.

The task split is the following:

  • T-C.1 – Architecture and Interfaces
  • T-C.2 – Advanced Connectivity Services
  • T-C.3 – Management of Connectivity
  • T-C-4 – Experimentation and Prototyping

WP-D – Cloud Networking (CloNe)

It will design a novel cloud networking architecture supporting flash network slices, plus a management and a security framework that will be evaluated through the development of a large scale prototype distributed across different sites in Europe.  The utmost measurable performance indicator is the successful implementation of key novel technical solutions (e.g., flash network slices) and methods in the prototype.

The task split is the following:

  • T-D.1 – Networking Architecture
  • T-D.2 – Prototyping, Standardisation & Testing
  • T-D.3 – Cloud Network Management
  • T-D.4 – Security
