The social event
On Wednesday, June 27th, we will have the SAIL Summer School Social Event. A bus will pick us at the University and we will head to Santillana del Mar, a charming place 35 km away from Santander. This village has maintained most of its original roads, paths and environment and it really worths a visit. Santillana is also well known thanks to the Altamira Caves, which are described as the Sistine Chapel of Paleolithic Art. The original caves can not be visited now, but there is a replic within the Museo de Altamira and our visit will also spend some time at this interesting place. On the way back to Santander we will stop at Casa Setién, where we will enjoy a fantastic dinner within a incredible atmosphere. Afterwards, the bus will take all of us to our corresponding hotels.
About Santander
The SAIL Summer School will take place in Santander, Spain, a modern cosmopolitan city with a rich historical past, which has become in recent years the place chosen by many professional people to celebrate their conventions and congresses.
The appealing social and cultural background and the city’s high-quality service offerings have turned the capital of Cantabria into a city qualified to entice both the traveler who simply comes to explore it on leisure and the professional who arrives in Santander, not only to work but also to enjoy the city’s charm, culture, people and atmosphere. The beauty of the environment that surrounds Santander does not leave any of the approaching visitors indifferent. From the beautiful Bay of Santander, considered one of the most beautiful in Spain, bathing the southern area of the city, till the Lighthouse, passing along the majestic Sardinero beach, Santander offers one of the best settings in the world to host a Summer School. In this sense, we have planned for a program which merges the two aspects: high-quality techical presentations and lectures followed by active discussions with social activities that enable the participants to network while enjoying the beauty of our city.

There are several alternatives to reach Santander. The Bilbao Airport has direct flights to several European airports, such as Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDG), London-Heathrow (LHR), Frankfurt-International (FRA), Brussels-National (BRU), Milan-Malpensa (MXP), and Dusseldorf (DUS). Other connections are also available. From Bilbao Airport, you can reach Santander either by taking a taxi directly to Santander (approx. cost: 150 Euros), or via public transport.
