Capacity sharing workshop held in Stuttgart

SAIL partner NEC Laboratories Europe and Universität Stuttgart have organized a workshop on Capacity Sharing that took place on October 13th 2011 in Stuttgart. Capacity sharing is currently a hot topic for network operators, in both wireless and wireline networks, and is sometimes also referred to as “congestion management”. This workshop has put some emphasis on mobile networks, which is where congestion, overload etc. is currently perceived as an urgent problem.

The workshop was a big success and was attended by about 50 representatives from major operators (such as DOCOMO, Orange, Telecom Italia, BT), vendors (such as Alcatel Lucent, Huawei, NEC), telecom consultants, and standards organizations.

The workshop covered topics such as cost models, operator requirements, specific approaches to congestion management, and application/user adaptivity.

The presentation abstracts and slides are available online at the webpage of the workshop.
